About

Who you're working with

I'm Bill Berry. I taught math and computer science in the Irvine Unified School District for nine years, at three schools: Lakeside, Beacon Park, and Woodbridge High School. My courses were Math 7, Math 8, Enhanced Math 1, AP Computer Science A, AP Computer Science Principles, and Data Structures. I have a B.A. in psychology from UCLA and a B.S. in computer science from UC Irvine.

In my AP classes, 95% of my Computer Science Principles students and 76% of my Computer Science A students scored a 3 or higher on the exam.

I'm on leave from the classroom this year, which is why I have the time to do this properly. Every session is online, one on one, and taught by me.

I taught Math 7, Math 8, Enhanced Math 1, and all three computer science courses in Irvine Unified classrooms, so I know the pacing and where students get stuck.

Math 1 is the high school course most 9th graders take; Enhanced Math 1 is the accelerated version for 8th graders. If your student is in a course that is not listed, ask anyway.

We talk about where your student is stuck, what their grade looks like right now, and when they are actually free.

Practice between sessions

I send work aimed at what we covered, so the next session picks up instead of starting over.

After each session you hear what improved, what did not, and what we are doing next.

A live hour with me

Every session is one hour on Google Meet, one on one, taught by me.

A shared whiteboard

We work on a shared digital whiteboard. Your student writes on it from their own browser. There is no account to create and nothing to install.

The board, saved

When the session ends, the board is saved as a PDF in a private Google Drive folder you can see, so you can look over the work at home.

A short practice set

After each session your student gets a short practice set built from what we did. I review it before we meet again, so I know what stuck.

A progress note for you

A short note goes into that same Drive folder after each session, so you do not have to ask your student how it went.

Where AI comes in

I use AI to find gaps, build the practice sets, and keep track of progress. Your student never uses AI during a session; the work on the board is theirs.

What it costs

The first hour is free. After that, pay by the hour or buy a package.

Your first hour is free

Every new student starts with a free one-hour intake lesson on Google Meet. It is a real lesson on the shared whiteboard. You see how a session runs, I see where your student is, and you get the first progress note. After that, you decide whether to continue by the hour or with a package. No payment details are needed to book it.

Packages

Buy five or ten lessons in advance and the hourly rate drops. One lesson is one hour.

Packages are paid in full before the first package lesson and are good for four months from the date of purchase.

You only pay for lessons you take

You can stop a package at any time. Lessons you have taken are billed at the best rate you qualified for, and the rest is refunded. Two lessons into a 10-lesson package, you pay the hourly rate for two hours. Six lessons in, you pay the 5-lesson price plus one hour at the hourly rate. If a package expires with lessons unused, it is settled the same way.

Scheduling and payment

Hourly lessons are invoiced when they are scheduled and are due 24 hours before the lesson. Cancel or reschedule with at least 24 hours notice at no charge. With less notice, or if the student does not show, the hour is charged or deducted from the package. The first late cancellation is forgiven. If I cancel, there is no charge and the lesson is rescheduled.
